Bracket Breakdown- Sweet Sixteen (West)
Overview: The West was a tough region to foresee, particularly in round 2. Number 2 North Carolina fell in a shocker, Michigan won a half-court prayer, and 9 Florida State took down top seeded Xavier. Gonzaga easily handled Ohio State, and while we felt the fan favorite out of the WAC was overrated heading into the tournament, they have proven they are anything but. Meanwhile, Florida State shocked the nation by defeating top seeded Xavier; a round prior, Xavier was the only team to put up 100. It proved to be more of the fact that they were playing 16 seeded Texas Southern. We could see this one going down to the wire, with a potential buzzer-beater setup. We’re giving the edge to Gonzaga, but wouldn’t be surprised if Florida State prevails. Michigan struggled in the first round early, and won on a half court heave that saved their season. Lady luck runs out in the Sweet Sixteen, as Texas A&M is a very good basketball team. We think A&M wins in a close contest (fingers crossed for a Tech/A&M Final Four tout).
