Marquee Matchups

Welcome to the latest fantasy basketball segment, Marquee Matchups! Every week, five fantasy matchups are selected & highlighted from the upcoming week’s slate of NBA games. Unlike Weekly Waivers, which focuses on seasonal & dynasty leagues, Marquee Matchups will emphasize weekly rotating matchups that are ideal for daily fantasy play based on what circumstances a particular matchup might entail on a given night.

Monday December 10th: SF Tobias Harris (LAC) @ Phoenix Suns: Harris is quietly having a career year in Los Angeles averaging over 21 ppg, as well as over 8.4 rpg. Phoenix brings a core youth that shows promise for the future, but that doesn’t help them Monday night when the Clippers visit the desert. Expect Harris to have his way on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor, making Harris a great daily play option, as he’s not necessarily going to be a primary considerations by potential opponents.

Tuesday December 11th: SG DeMar DeRozan (SA) vs Phoenix Suns: With only three NBA games to choose from on Tuesday evening, loading up on Spurs as they host a Suns team that will not only have to travel to San Antonio, but will we playing a second consecutive night after hosting the Clippers on Monday. DeRozan is our top choice for a marquee matchup, but one couldn’t be faulted for taking LaMarcus Aldridge either. DeRozan should dominate the perimeter, while Aldridge should dominate the frontcourt, making the Spurs the easy ideal choice for a night that sees limited NBA action.

Wednesday December 12th: C Joel Embid (PHI) vs Brooklyn Nets: The Nets are currently ailing with injury, and a Wednesday night matchup against one of the East’s top teams likely won’t help the matter. Jarrett Allen has turned into a fine center for a team that lacked size in the frontcourt, but it’s unlikely he’ll be enough to stop the dominate force of Joel Embid in the paint. Embid is currently leading the Sixers in PPG (26.3), RPG (13.3), and BPG (2.0). If the Nets do have a considered strong point, outside of Allen, it would be their play in the backcourt, so this obvious mismatch should be heavily considered in all daily fantasy formats.

Thursday December 13th: PG Zach LaVine (CHI) @Orlando Magic: LaVine is one of Chicago’s few consistent producers, and likely will be throughout the season’s duration. LaVine currently averages 24 PPG, along with 4.9 APG. When facing the Magic, the concerns an opponent will have are within the frontcourt where star center, Nikola Vucevic handles the bulk load. After that, Orlando’s entire roster is extremely thin, and this trickles all the way to the backcourt where LaVine should easily have his way Thursday evening.

Friday December 14th: Al Horford (BOS) vs Atlanta Hawks:There’s something about playing your former team that requires no initial motivation. Horford is obviously not the Al Horford of old, but he still has plenty of moments while still carrying a load of over 30 MPG. His former squad will counter with a combination of John Collins, Alex Len, & Dewayne Dedmon, a trio that will unlikely reduce Horford’s efforts of stinging his former team at TD Garden this Friday.
